Meet Report – Weston Park Breakfast Meet and Cosford Airshow

28 units from Shropshire, West Midlands, North Staffs, Birmingham, Coventry, Derby, North Cheshire, Worcester & Hereford DA’s and the Folk Dance Special Interest Section, enjoyed the glorious weather and fabulous surroundings of Weston Park for our annual breakfast meet.

Friday afternoon was preparation time for the breakfast on Saturday morning, and a chance to catch up with friends old and new, as units arrived throughout the day, 12 had arrived by 3pm and then steadily from then into the evening. The weather was good and people had the opportunity to sit outside and relax and socialise.

Saturday morning the Committee (and some other welcome helpers) were up bright and early to prepare the numerous breakfasts that were being provided to feed over 60 hungry campers – their efforts were well received and appreciated as people came to enjoy the sunshine as it started to make an appearance, and it was the middle of the morning before the diners dispersed and some of the campers willingly pitched in to help tidy up which was much appreciated and shows that we really are the Friendly Club.

After the conclusion of the breakfast, a couple more units arrived and some of the several families on site went off to explore the beautiful gardens and grounds of Weston Park, including the Adventure Playground and the Miniature Railway. Then in the late afternoon and evening, with the sun out in full force there was a real buzz around the site, people were doing their own thing and there were many impromptu gatherings out in the sunshine with lots of laughter, everything that DA camping is all about.

Sunday morning began with Coffee morning where Sausages sandwiches were available, the drawing of the raffle (thanks to Peter Gruar for the donation of the first prize – Matthew being the lucky winner!) and the sharing of Laura’s birthday cake which was made by John Vaughan. Then, as the aircraft appearing at nearby RAF Cosford airshow flew over the site, some people went off to the airfield itself to watch the show, whilst others made the way up to another area of the park to enjoy the displays in the sun before returning to site to pack away and return home after another fantastic weekend.

We had some great feedback from campers who really enjoyed the hospitality and the site “Thanks for a lovely weekend at Weston Park. We were made to feel really welcome. Great access to Cosford airshow and a fantastic breakfast with you all!! Lovely DA and Tracy, your boys were lovely with my 4!!. Look forward to seeing you all again soon J”.

The site has been booked for the same weekend next year, so get your airshow tickets and come and join us again!

Thanks to Ken and Jean, and Richard and Laura for Stewarding, the Committee, Linda and Ann for helping with the breakfast, and to the ladies who also helped us afterwards.
