Meet Report – Ebury Hill, Camping & Caravanning Club Site Thursday 30th Sept –> Sunday 3rd October 2021, stewarded by Sue & Anthony Perry

THURSDAY at 13:00pm, the rally meet was officially opened. Units continued to arrive throughout the day, with the final unit arriving at 18:40. Six units in total had arrived.

FRIDAY the weather was somewhat a mixed bunch, with light showers coupled with blazing sunshine. Throughout the day, the native wild rabbits and squirrels continued to forage in the undergrowth and surrounding parklands whilst the buzzards remained overhead, sending out their usual calls. Evening set in and the BBQs were lit and were loaded with a variety of foods; Steaks, Sweet Chilli-Chicken thighs and steak-burgers sizzling away with the cooked food odours making the campers feel hungry. Before you knew it, sun had set and majority of campers retired to their awnings or caravans for the evening. By 22:15pm, the site was now asleep.

SATURDAY the sun was shining but soon after the showers arrived. Campers completed their usual chores of fresh water collection, disposal of waste water & Elsan prior to embarking on the new day. Campers were constantly reminded on Radio & TV media channels about the panic buying of petrol & diesel but this would not hamper things. Campers were soon off on their adventures. Some remained onsite whilst some visited the surrounding towns and countryside such as National Trust Attingham Park and Shrewsbury Town. One unit ventured out to Powis Castle nearby Welshpool; now that one more for the bucket list ! Some had leisurely walk around the ground and fishing lake which has truly been transformed this year by the Club.

SUNDAY morning, campers were up early, getting their various jobs done, prior to Coffee morning which was being hosted by the Stewards Sue and Anthony Perry. Sue had generously provided some homemade cake and biscuits which the campers truly devoured.

Sue read out the answers to the various questions on her quiz page and a final winner was selected at random from a bag; Terry & June Richards were the successful winners, receiving a magnificent trophy and stick of rock.

The campers continued to have a good old natter, sharing their experiences of other camped meets and future planned camping meets but soon it was time to return to the units and begin the task of cleaning & packing away, in readiness for the next adventure.

By 12 noon, several units had successfully departed, leaving only a few to clean their awnings down in between the showers. We all said our goodbyes and look forward to meeting each and everyone again in the near future in a field.
