Meet Report – Orchard Cottage / Market Drayton Thurs 24th->Mon 28th June, 2021

Stewards: Jon & Natasha Witcombe, supported by Vince & Linda Beddoes

Shropshire DA’s 2nd weekend meet of the 2021. We arrived on Wednesday, to prepare the site according to the Club Covid-19 green paper guidance. When we arrived and entered the field it was like entering a well-kept tennis court or bowling green; what a fabulous venue. The grass was well cut accompanied with lovely stripes.

Thursday lunchtime, 3-4 other members joined us and the field remained peaceful & tranquil.

Late Friday afternoon, just in time for our remaining booked members to arrive & set-up, the clouds opened up, joined with thunder-claps and lightening. We all kept looking at our weather apps on our smart phones and it did not look like it was going to back off. One of our members had to assemble their teepee in the downpour; not all sad though as the adjoining caravanner decided not to bring their awning and planned they would be set-up in minutes decided to help the stricken camper with her teepee in the rain; not what he had planned whatsoever 😊.

Saturday morning, the sun was shining, the children playing lovely in the centre of the field, some members popped into Market Drayton whilst some remained at their units and enjoyed the F1, Rugby & UEFA 2020. Before you knew it, it was dinnertime and out the BBQs came and field was truly alive. Afterwards, many of the campers, respecting social distancing joined in the centre and we laughed and joked and shared some funny stories.

Before you knew it, Sunday was upon us and the majority of the campers began to start cleaning down and packing-up ready for their next adventures.

It was great to see so many new faces and truly hope they will join us again in the coming weeks & months at our other meets in the region. It is fair to say, social media is clearly helping us reach-out far and wide, especially when you look at the various DA’s in attendance;

Birmingham DA – 1 unit

Liverpool & South West Lancs DA – 1 unit

South Lancs DA – 1 unit

West Midlands DA – 1 unit

West Wales DA – 1 unit

Shropshire DA – 6 units

_____________________________________________

Total – 11 units

Needless to say, we have booked this venue twice for 2022.

On a final note, on behalf of the Shropshire DA committee ( one of many District Associations providing social camping on behalf of the Camping & Caravanning Club ), we would like to pass our sincere thanks and gratitude to the Team at RICOH UK Products Ltd, for generously donating 100 face shields for our stewards to use through-out the remaining stage of the Covid-19 lockdown easing. During these times of adversity, it is great that a company like RICOH helps the wider community in this way; truly appreciated. Thank you.
