Sixteen units from across the Midlands, including West Midlands DA and BCC, Derbyshire, Chase, North Staffs, and of course, Shropshire, attended our first of 2 meets this year at this popular venue near Bridgnorth.
Fortunately the field had dried out quite well following the recent wet weather, and with hardstanding available for the motorhomes, there were no issues with siting the units, the majority of whom arrived steadily during Friday afternoon and evening.
On the Friday evening we crossed the road to the Social Club for a relaxing get together over some drinks and games of darts and cards.
Saturday was cloudy but thankfully dry, giving people the opportunity to explore the local Severn Valley Park, Kidderminster, Bridgnorth or do their own thing on site, the play park behind the social club proving popular with the children. Also, a big thank you to Mike and Lee for giving up some of their afternoon to set up the skittle alley.
Some more units arrived during the course of Saturday afternoon and evening, no doubt enticed by the prospect of a thrilling evening of Skittles in the Social Club, wonderfully organised by our Stewards, Mike and Sue.
So onto the main event of the weekend, Skittles. The Children’s competition was won by Tom, and, after 2 rounds of intense and very serious bowling, the winner of the men’s tournament was Mark, (including the only full ‘strike’ of the evening), and the ladies, proving to be somewhat invincible with her third win in a row, was Linda. This year saw the first ever ‘Booby Prize’ for the gallant person finishing last, the ‘honour’ going to Ruth. The evening was complemented by another wonderful American Supper.
On Sunday the sun was out, allowing us to have Coffee Morning outside the Stewards’ unit, and no one was in a hurry to leave as they enjoyed the lovely weather before making their way home after another very enjoyable and successful weekend with Shropshire DA.
Thank you to Mike and Sue Reynolds for stewarding for us for the first time and for organising Saturday evening.
