Easter Meet Report – Longden Village Hall – 18th-23rd April 2019

Wow! That is all we could say at our Easter Meet at Longden Village Hall, near Shrewsbury.

An incredible 31 units from numerous DAs and sections around the Midlands and beyond joined us across the 5 days of the meet at this beautiful, peaceful site in the heart of the Shropshire countryside.

The first unit arrived 2 minutes after the site opened on Thursday as the sun came out, and they arrived steadily for the rest of the day, with 12 units on site by the evening.

Thursday evening we went into the Hall for the first of our Social Evenings, which included celebrating Roy Evans’ Birthday with Prosecco and Cake, music for the children, and games and a general chat as the campers got to make new friendships or renew old ones.

Friday dawned with a beautiful blue and sunny sky, units continued to arrive throughout the day and everyone enjoyed the glorious weather, some venturing into Shrewsbury, others happy to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine whilst the children entertained themselves at the onsite play park. By the end of the day, a further 18 units had arrived, and it was time to return to the hall for another fun packed evening of bingo, music, and more games.

The weather continued to be fantastic on Saturday, and again, people did their own thing, with most choosing to soak up the sun on site. Tracy and Linda provided entertainment in the morning with a decorated egg craft session – thanks to Roy for judging – the winner being Lewis, and then making chocolate nests. A Treasure Hunt for the children (and some grown ups!) had people searching high and low across the site with the participants rewarded with chocolate eggs.

On Saturday afternoon Linda, Tracy and Sue served an afternoon tea with scones and hot cross buns, which was enjoyed by all who attended. Shortly after this a further unit arrived, taking the total in attendance to an incredible 31.

Saturday evening and more entertainment was provided by the entertainment team of Tracy, Andrew, Linda and Mike. 2 games of bingo (thanks to Mike for doing the calling and Oliver for assisting), Linda’s quiz for young and old (children’s winners were Gethin, Emma and Jay), the chocolate tombola (thanks to June and Eirwen for running) and finally the raffle.

It was another glorious day on Sunday, coffee morning was done in the hall, with more seasonal delights being consumed, before we all moved outside to the main arena on the football pitch for the Easter competitions and games.

There were some fantastic Easter Bonnets and ties produced, it was a very hard job for Graham and Carol to judge the winners – thanks to them for their efforts.

The winners of the events were:

  • Children Easter Bonnet – Lottie, closely followed by George
  • Ladies Easter Bonnet – Eirwen
  • Gents Tie – Brian
  • Children Under 8s Egg & Spoon – Becky
  • Children Over 8s Egg & Spoon – Oliver
  • Children Over 10s Egg & Spoon – Lewis
  • Ladies Egg & Spoon – Carol
  • Gents Egg & Spoon – Graham
  • Children Under 8s Welly Wanging – Isaac
  • Children Over 8s Welly Wanging – Oliver
  • Children Over 10s Welly Wanging – Lewis
  • Ladies Welly Wanging – Chantal
  • Gents Welly Wanging – Andrew

For the rest of the afternoon people again did their own thing on site and then in the evening in the main hall after another couple of games of Bingo, Becky organised an amusing ‘Mr and Mrs’ game which was well received by all who participated and watched. Ironically Becky and Dave (questions read out by Tracy) were the winners with a full house of 10 /10!

Monday was a day for relaxing in the sunshine again, or for those unfortunate enough to have to leave, packing up. In the evening following more bingo, Linda provided another quiz won by John and Pauline.

Tuesday sadly saw the end of our fantastic Easter meet. Thanks to Andrew Tracy, Vince and Linda for stewarding, Tracy and Linda for their hard work preparing for the weekend and running the children’s activities., Ken for providing the Golden Buckets game, everyone who attended and anyone who helped in anyway to make the meet such a great success.

Judging from some of the feedback we received after the weekend we know that that you all enjoyed yourselves, and look forward to seeing you all again very soon!
